Merlin screwed up his face, and then broke into a grin.
Yes!

Though not an actual scene from the fic, after making the manip I couldn’t help but feel like that line just seemed… right.
Could work as either Brolin or Merthur reincarnated (circa Student Prince)
Still figuring out the ins and outs of photoshop, so please be kind!

This whole time I’m just imagining Merlin and Arthur in that wee box instead of Prince Harry …

a-most-excellent-adventure:

Much like Straight On Till Morning

Singing and dancing along together and hugging each other and just being in love …

Why can’t The Student Prince be real life?

Posted this once before, but I’m putting it here again for the re-read. Arthur’s speech set to a little Love Actually music.

The Student Prince Reread- Chapter 33

I just love Arthurs speech, he is so petrified in that moment but he’s willing to take a leap  of faith. Faith in his people, to accept him for who he is now that he’s laid his soul out to them.

“There was a school of thought that held ice cream was a dessert fit only for summer; that school of thought had clearly not visited Janetta’s Ice cream Parlour. Lance had dragged Merlin down to the end of South Street to prove this point, both of them bundled up in coats and scarves and hats to brave the frigid air. They were not the only people so dressed to be sitting in the cafe clutching their ice cream sundaes in gloved hands, though – Janetta’s had a well-deserved reputation far beyond St Andrews.”

This place looks so yummy :)

but. chapter 29 from Arthur’s POV. can you imagine? When the chapter ends, which is something we don’t see, he is left on the beach alone with three lifeless bodies. I like to think that his first instinct was to call Morgana (since there was magic involved) but he was probably scared out of his mind (Val just died the most horrible death, Ewan has been shot and wasn’t probably going to get up in a hurry despite Merlin’s reckless use of magic, and Merlin wasn’t looking very much alive either). Dammit Arthur. The thought of him standing there surrounded by collapsed bodies is breaking my heart.

The Student Prince Reaction/Headcanon-y thing #13:

let-it-be-extraordinary:

Okay so I bet Christmas the next year is at the Emrys house hold. Like Arthur comes over for Christmas (without really telling his father, I bet he just told Morgana and let her deal with it) and he absolutely falls in love with this kind of Christmas.

And he’s met Hunith before and she loved him, but it was always ‘Mrs Emrys’ and this is the first time they’ve really bonded. So Merlin goes to the bathroom and leaves Arthur with Hunith and they get talking. And then Arthur starts talking about Merlin and Hunith admires the way his face lights up and the amount of tenderness in his voice, and though Hunith was supportive from the start, she realises now what Merlin has found and tells him when Arthur leaves on boxing day that if Merlin ever decides to dump Arthur, Hunith will ground him. “Mum, I’m 19, you can’t ground me.” “Just watch me, I can ground you if I want to.”

And Arthur, who has never really enjoyed Christmas before, enjoys it so much. The food tastes better some how and the whole atmosphere is amazing. Arthur particularly enjoys the present opening and Merlin’s little noises of delight as he opens Arthur’s present. And the kiss he receives in return. Because he hasn’t sat on the ground opening presents since he was 8 and he loved the way the tree would flash with cheap multicoloured fairy lights with quaint decorations and falling apart slightly because the plastic is so old.

The next year for Christmas he invites Morgana along and her and Hunith bond immediately, and tease the boys all day.

The next year Merlin AND Hunith are invited to Buckingham palace and though things are still a bit awkward between Uther and Merlin, Uther and Hunith get along and become kind of friends - which Hunith finds so surreal and freaks out about to Merlin later - And Hunith has the best time, not having to cook and Uther is bemused at her comments like, “ooh, a real tree!” and “This turkey is so much better than I could ever make.” And everything is beautiful and they’re like a family, if a slightly disjointed one.

AND THEN THE NEXT YEAR They’re all able to convince Uther to come has Christmas in the Emrys household. And Uther says under no uncertain terms that he doesn’t want Hunith to go to any extra trouble (because Uther really is a good guy who is quite laid back about a lot of things) and he even consents to sit cross-legged on the ground while opening presents on Christmas day. Uther does end up staying for lunch and Doesn’t mention that the beans are slightly over cooked because he’s enjoying the relaxed look on his son’s face too much.

Basically all Uther wants for both his children is for them to be happy. He admits he was quite angry at first when Arthur first came out, mostly because he didn’t want his son to be hurt like he knew he would be, by the media and by the people. But when he met Merlin during the Easter Holidays he saw the way Arthur looked at Merlin and stopped worrying. Because evidently Arthur has finally found someone he could trust. Uther was worried when Arthur was growing up that he’d never be able to find a girlfriend or a wife because there is so much trust involved with being in love the and awful circumstances in which Arthur was in meant it would be hard to trust anyone. That’s why he kept in regular touch with the Casiraghi family because he thought Charlotte in a good enough position to encourage Arthur’s trust. And Arthur never had a girlfriend growing up, not even as a kid, no matter how many times Uther would bring up the subject of girls, the most he would get out of his son was a shrug and a grunt. So when Arthur came out on national television Uther was even more worried, he’d heard stories about the gay community, they didn’t sound promising. But then Merlin turns up, and Uther can see that this boy is everything his son needs and the look in Arthur’s eye reminded Uther so much of the way Igraine used to look at him so much that he could hardly stand it. So the greeting he gave Merlin might have been a bit awkward, but he missed his wife dammit.

Uther leaves Hunith’s place shortly after lunch on Christmas day and tells Morgana and Arthur that they have to be home by tomorrow as he tries not to think about how his son is going to spend the night - and how his surrogate daughter is going to spend the night as well for that matter.
